Will this area of concentration prepare me for graduate work in psychology?
Yes, many students go on to advance their studies in a variety of psychology-based fields such as family and couples' counseling, art therapy and mental health counseling. Your coursework in this concentration includes three prerequisite courses required by most graduate schools. In addition, you take electives to complement the area of interest you want to pursue.
What can I do as an internship?
There is a wealth of opportunities for interning. It just depends on your interests. Some examples of internships are:
- Volunteering at Seattle’s crisis clinic
- Assisted teaching art to at risk youth
- Assisting with a homeless women’s program
- Volunteering at a center for addiction
- Assisting with hospice
- Assisting a research writing project
Can I use my current work experience as part of my degree program?
Yes, this might become an independent study you would develop with the help of your adviser.
How long does it take to complete my undergraduate degree?
Most students graduate from this B.A. degree completion program in two years or less. Completion of 180 quarter credits is required for graduation. These may include transcript credits from other colleges and universities, Antioch University credits and prior learning credits earned through Antioch's credit for life experience program. You must enroll for a minimum of four quarters and at least 36 current learning credits to get your liberal arts degree from Antioch.
Is it possible to enter this bachelor's degree completion program without deciding my specialization?
Some students enter with a clear idea about their focus. Others do not. Your adviser can help you find ways to think about and articulate your field of study. It all depends on your unique educational purposes. Your interests may start out fairly vague and gain in definition over time. You may begin the degree process with a set of general questions about certain topics or disciplines that pique your curiosity. As you move through the degree process, you develop a more focused sense for your academic specialization.
Can I use courses I’ve taken at other institutions to meet the requirements of this area of concentration?
Yes. Students transfer in previous coursework taken at community colleges and at other universities.
Can I complete more than one academic concentration?
Students sometimes find it desirable to complete a second area of concentration. In this case, only 35 credits are required as a minimum for the additional area.
