Do I need to decide when I apply if I also want to earn a master’s degree?
You need to indicate your preference. It’s understandable that circumstances might change.
I already have a master’s degree. Do you have a non-master’s option?
Yes. You can complete the requirements for certification only.
Should I complete the 40-hour classroom experience before I apply? How do I arrange this in a state-approved school classroom?
It is best to finish the 40 hours by the application deadline because the admission committee prefers to review complete applications. Of the required letters of recommendation, one must come from the teacher or principal who can speak to your work with students in your 40 hours of classroom experience. While it is not always possible to obtain your 40 hours by the time the application is due, you must complete the hours prior to the program’s start.
To arrange your classroom experience, contact the secretary or volunteer coordinator in an elementary school of your choice. Antioch prefers your 40-hour experience be in a public school, although private school experience is acceptable. If you’re interested in the K-8 program, the documented 40 hours should be in an elementary or middle school classroom.
Can I work full time while in this program?
Full-time employment is discouraged. If you have flexibility in your schedule, part-time employment is easier to manage. For the evening program, you also must have some availability during the day for field placement experiences.
Does Antioch have an online program?
Not at this time. Antioch does use computer technologies to enhance the program and offers courses at the Seattle campus and the Muckleshoot Tribal College in Auburn for the First Peoples' partnership. Please Request Information about where you might be able to attend.
Do I need to take the WEST-B before I can apply?
Yes, you need to take and pass the test before you can apply.
