How many credits do I need to transfer into the program?
You must have 85 to 90 credit hours from a regionally accredited institution to transfer into the program. The courses must be at the 100 level or higher and you should have a grade of C or better in each course.
Can I do my student teaching internship at a school of my choice?
Several factors determine where you do your student teaching. Antioch’s
staff considers requests and cannot promise to accommodate your
preference.
Should I complete the 40-hour classroom experience before I apply? How do I arrange this in a state-approved school classroom?
It is best to finish the 40 hours by the application deadline because
the admission committee prefers to review complete applications.
Of the required letters of recommendation, one must come from the
teacher or principal who can speak to your work with students in
your 40 hours of classroom experience. While it is not always possible
to obtain your 40 hours by the time the application is due, you
must complete the hours prior to the program’s start.
To arrange your classroom experience, contact the secretary or volunteer coordinator in an elementary school of your choice. Antioch prefers your 40-hour experience be in a public school, although private school experience is acceptable. The experience must be in an elementary school (K-8) and must be within the last two years.
How long is the program?
The program is eight quarters. It includes courses, field experiences and a concentrated student teaching quarter.
When are classes?
The cohort of 20 students generally meets two evenings a week and
Saturdays every other week.
Can I work full time during the day while in this program?
Full-time employment is discouraged unless you have flexibility in your schedule. Flexible, part-time employment typically can be managed more easily. You must have some availability during the day for field placement experiences.
Does Antioch have an online program?
Not at this time. We do use computer technologies to enhance the program and offer courses at the Seattle campus and the Muckleshoot Tribal College in Auburn, where Antioch has a First Peoples' partnership. Please Request Information about where you might be able to attend.
Do I need to take the WEST-B before I can apply?
No. You need a plan in place to take the test when you apply and you need to have passed all three sections before the first day of classes.
