What can I expect from the program?

You can expect to work with the program director and the other business executives in this program to grow your business uniquely. In addition to six practical day-long sessions, you’ll work on two Thursdays, in four business settings in a fishbowl style to help that business grow. You can expect to be challenged, prodded and inspired to grow your business.

What do I have to do to earn the certificate?

You must attend seven of the eight sessions.

Are there sources of financial assistance available?

Continuing Education students are ineligible for the University's financial aid programs in most cases. However, there are private student loan programs offered by banks and other lenders. Click here for more information. You can request a payment plan by calling 206-268-4111.

What have graduates said about the program?
Karyn Beckley, Vice President, Pacific Medical Center (spring 2006). "The Strategic Leadership Certificate program made me rethink many of the communication and management methods I had previously used. The program helps businesses and employees refocus on customers' needs/desires and learn how to understand and better relate to their customers. I gained new skills for helping others develop and for creating an environment in which employees can grow and use their unique skills to support the company's goals. This was a tremendous opportunity to both enhance my business skills and to experience personal growth."

Dirk Wassink, General Manager, Second Use Building Materials, Inc. (spring 2006), “The focus is on people first and adding value; the money will follow. I have found frameworks that have helped with some of the “stuck” places in our business. I see a lot of potential for growth as we continue to work with these concepts and try to implement them together. My chief mission is establishing a consciousness infrastructure which will engage our employees in partnership with customers to make our business more effective at adding value. The role feels much more dynamic because growth doesn’t depend exclusively on me—it becomes a collaborative process.”

Peggy Hansen, owner, Sky Patterns and Models (spring 2006)."I have learned so much in these few months about myself, my business and where I need to take Sky Patterns and Models to be a successful company. I have a better understanding of my cash flow and how margins and earnings work. I know with this knowledge my company will grow and develop good leaders. But most of all, I have learned what the essence of my business is. I can’t thank you enough for what you have taught me about how to grow my business."

B.J. Duft, general manager/owner, Herban Feast Catering (spring 2006). "I would absolutely recommend this program to many friends who operate small businesses. I loved being challenged in a way that calls me to be awake and question my thought processes."

Adrian C. Taylor, Vice President/Owner, Ben Franklin Crafts (spring 2006). "This course has made me reflect on myself and the way in which I lead my business. I have radically changed my thinking of what my job now needs to be--to harness the brainpower of our employees. I look forward to finding new ways of connecting with the essence of the business. In a few short weeks, we have dissected the processes in our organization, starting with “who are our customers.” In a growing business we often don’t take the time to plan the growth needed to sustain it. We now have a framework to build upon."

Molly McNeally (spring 2005), senior manager at Technology US Bank Financial Services, wrote, "I WAS THRILLED!! As a result of the class and consultative learning, now we are working TOGETHER and talking as one group towards one common goal rather than competing departments. And others are asking to join the monthly discussions because they now see and understand where and how they fit into the picture!"
