How to Teach What You Know (1 CEU) This workshop prepares knowledgeable adults with a vision and passion to teach to learn how to teach adult learners. As a result of this workshop, participants will understand and be able to facilitate adult learning. They also develop the best practices of skillful teachers. Topics to be covered include: philosophy and psychology of adult education, adult life cycles and learning theory, adult learning styles, personality styles, experiential learning, evaluation and feedback and learning systems and technology. Instructors: Ernest L. Hughes, Ed.D., MSGSCM, MBA, MSE, is an educator, consultant and small business owner. He has worked for several Fortune 500 companies, including Boeing and REI, and helped found a community college. Every ten years or so, he goes back to school, most recently completing a master's in global supply chain management from the University of Alaska-Anchorage. Hughes is an adjunct professor at North Seattle Community College, Seattle Pacific University, the University of Phoenix and the University of Washington, where he teaches a variety of topics about what he knows. Gail Rognan, M.A., is the founder of Renewal of Spirit, which works with leaders and work teams who want to develop their most powerful stories and tell them more effectively. She has over twenty years of experience as an educator, professional writer and life coach. She has written her own life story and helped others write theirs. She has published a book, Living Out Your Passion While Living Without a Job. Design Your Own Professional Development You work with an Antioch faculty member to improve your teaching, travel to learn, collaborate on curriculum or work with parents and earn credits for your professional learning. This independent study is organized with a work plan provided with the course syllabus. Thirty hours of work equals one quarter credit. Courses through The Heritage Institute Antioch partners with The Heritage Institute to provide continuing education for teachers. Since 1976, The Heritage Institute (THI) has been a leader in progressive continuing education programs for K-12 educators, providing more than 300 workshops, field studies, travel programs and distance courses to teachers in the Northwest, around the United States and the world. The Heritage Institute fulfills its mission by providing pre- and in-service teachers with educational experiences to enliven their classrooms with engaging as well as socially and ecologically responsible learning.
