Admission Requirements

Completion of 100 hours of volunteer or professional experience in a helping role in an educational and/or human services setting
Completion of three prerequisite courses: theories of personality, abnormal psychology and developmental psychology with a minimum grade of C. (If you completed the prerequisite courses more than 10 years ago, you must retake them.) –OR– A bachelor’s degree in psychology completed within the last 10 years, with a GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
Two letters of recommendation: one from a professional who has provided oversight of your practical experience, and one from a social science instructor who can best assess your capabilities and readiness to enter graduate clinical training. If you have not enrolled in a college course in five years, two letters may be submitted from professional supervisors. (Use the PDF forms provided in Step Two.)

Admission Essay Instructions

Submit a typewritten, double-spaced essay with your application. Please include one to two pages for each of the following questions and clearly number your response to each question:

In what ways has your academic and practical experience prepared you for becoming a counselor/therapist? What do you see as your potential strengths and areas of growth as a counselor/therapist?
In what ways has your life history and personal experience contributed to your desire to become a counselor/therapist? Have you engaged in your own personal counseling/therapy? If so, do you see this as an important component toward becoming an effective counselor/therapist?
What will be the areas of greatest challenge for you in undertaking graduate study at this time? What forms of support will you use to meet those challenges?
Which clinical program are you interested in at this time? How do you see this program as best meeting your needs?

Transfer Credit

You may transfer up to 12 quarter credits of prior graduate-level coursework.

Provisional Admission to Clinical Programs

To be eligible to apply for provisional admission, you must have completed at least one of the academic prerequisites and 75 practical experience hours.

This option allows you to be admitted into a pre-master's status when the requirements related to the academic prerequisites are in progress. If admitted provisionally, you have two quarters to complete your psychology prerequisite requirements at Antioch. If you are provisionally accepted to art therapy, you have four quarters to complete the art prerequisite requirements. Upon completion, you will be fully admitted into one of the M.A. clinical programs.
